Happy Lesbian Visibility Week from Gorom Refugee Camp!

“Hello world, I am  Latiyah Akello by name, a Lesbian from Uganda, currently seeking asylum in South Sudan, I take this chance to wish us all a fabulous Lesbian Week and Lesbian Visibility Day this Sunday to every lesbian around the world.

May you be safe, seen, and loved. May we find community when we need it, strength for the hard days, and joy that reminds us why we keep going. To the mothers, the asylum seekers, the ones doing whatever it takes for their kids, your courage matters. You are not alone.

I am a mother to one and a half year old daughter and  became a mother while struggling to find food. I some times do sex work here for survival and it’s how I got my child. Life is very hard because I  couldn’t take care of myself and now I have a new life to care for with little to no support. I work hard to get food and medication for my daughter. Sometimes I ask friends for food. Sometimes I wash clothes for people to earn some cash, but the work is not daily and it’s not enough, the situation here is horrible. I call upon any well wishers around the world for support ,any donations, words of comfort, and prayers.

To those who have spared dollars for us already we  thank you so much because we could not be here without you, may you be rewarded.”
